The Mental Health and Addictions Counselling Diploma Program
provide students with the knowledge and skills to provide assistance in the
community in a variety of ways. This includes assisting and counselling clients
with mental health related problems such as depression, anxiety, substance
abuse, and addictions. Students will also learn how to facilitate support group
using counselling skills, psychotherapy theories, and techniques including
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
This course is offered inclass
Course duration 950 hours or 40 weeks
Course includes a 480 clinical practicum
Pre requisites: Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent, Hepatitis B
vaccine, TB skin text, criminal reference check for the vulnerable sector, and
first aid CPR.

In the College of Health Studies Mental Health and Addictions Diploma
program, students will complete an 8-week Internship in a professional
mental health setting that you will find in your community, assistance w
be provide if you cannot secure a placement in your community. Studen
will work directly in a community service environment and will gain valuable
practical experience before graduating.
An Internship is a great way to get a feel for different positions and make
important contacts within the industry. Many students are hired by their
placement employer for permanent employment in their new profession.
